Visit Japan, one of the world’s most popular travel destinations, famous for its rich cultural heritage, advanced technology, delicious cuisine, and breathtaking seasonal scenery.

To visit Japan, citizens of many countries may travel visa-free for short stays. However, Indonesian passport holders are required to obtain a Temporary Visitor Visa before travelling to Japan unless they hold an Indonesian e-passport that has been registered for Japan’s visa exemption program.

What is it and who is it for?

The Single Entry Temporary Visitor Visa allows foreign nationals to enter Japan once during the validity period of the visa. It is issued for tourism, visiting family or friends, attending business meetings, conferences, or other short-term non-remunerated activities.

The visa is generally valid for 3 months from the date of issuance, allowing a stay of up to 15, 30, or 90 days, depending on the approval granted by the Embassy of Japan.

The Single Entry Temporary Visitor Visa does not permit employment or paid work in Japan.

Can tourists with visa exemption stay longer?

Nationals from visa-exempt countries may enter Japan for the period permitted under Japan’s visa waiver arrangements.

Indonesian ordinary passport holders generally require a visa before travelling. Indonesian electronic passport (e-passport) holders who have completed prior visa exemption registration may enter Japan without a visa for stays of up to 15 days for tourism or short-term business purposes.

Travellers wishing to remain longer than their authorized stay must obtain an appropriate visa before travelling or apply through the relevant immigration procedures where permitted. (id.emb-japan.go.jp)
