Visit Australia, one of the world’s most popular travel destinations, known for its spectacular beaches, vibrant cities, incredible wildlife, and breathtaking natural wonders.
To visit Australia, citizens of most countries, including Indonesia, are required to obtain an Australian Visitor Visa before travelling unless they are eligible for Australia’s Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) or eVisitor program. Indonesian passport holders are not eligible for visa-free entry or ETA and must apply for a Visitor Visa.
What is it and who is it for?
The Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) allows foreign nationals to travel to Australia temporarily for tourism, visiting family or friends, or short-term business activities. Depending on the applicant’s circumstances, the visa may be granted as Single Entry or Multiple Entry, with permitted stays of 3, 6, or up to 12 months.
For eligible frequent travellers from certain countries, including Indonesia, Australia also offers the Frequent Traveller Stream, which may be granted for up to 10 years with stays of up to 3 months per visit. The final validity and number of entries are determined by the Australian Department of Home Affairs.
This visa is suitable for:
- Tourism and holidays
- Visiting family or friends
- Short-term business meetings
- Conferences, seminars, and trade events
- Cruise holidays
The Visitor Visa does not permit employment or long-term study in Australia.
Can tourists with visa exemption stay longer?
Citizens eligible for Australia’s Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) or eVisitor may travel without applying for a traditional Visitor Visa before departure, subject to the conditions of those programs.
As Indonesia is not eligible for either the ETA or eVisitor program, Indonesian passport holders must apply for a Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) before travelling.
Visitors wishing to remain in Australia beyond the period granted on their visa must apply for another appropriate visa before their current visa expires, provided they meet the relevant immigration requirements.
